In fact using premium or supreme gasoline in an engine not rated for premium gasoline will make the engine run improperly causing lousy gas mileage. The simple fact is that if your engine does not have a high compression ratio it does not need higher octane fuel. An engine that does not generate the compression needed to effectively ignite high octane fuel will not run properly. If you do have an engine that has a higher compression ratio, then you should use a higher octane fuel or you risk early detonation (knocking) which also makes the engine run less efficient. Unless your engine is modified the owners manual should tell you what octane fuel you require and for most vehicles it is not premium. Although this does avoid damage to the engine, it will not give you the best mileage per gallon. Submit your own comment!
